Residents of the Lake Norman region have been remembering the lake’s 50-year history over the past couple of years with research projects, programs and other events. Now, there’s a new history, too.
Author and historian Chuck McShane‘s “A History of Lake Norman: Fish Camps to Ferraris” was published Sept. 30. It’s an accessible 120-page account of the lake’s origins and evolution, illustrated with historical and contemporary photographs and charts.
McShane is on a local book tour this week, beginning with a program at Cornelius Library on Tuesday and including stops at Duke Energy’s EnergyExplorium in Huntersville Friday and Main Street Books in Davidson Sunday. (See a list of public events below.) Read the full story

Pumpkin Patch for Missions opened this week and continues through Nov. 4 at Davidson United Methodist Church’s McKay Youth House, 260 S. Main St., Davidson. The Youth Ministries of the church hosts the annual pumpkin sale to benefit youth mission trips and activities.

MOORESVILLE – Most of the attention paid to congestion in the Lake Norman area has focused on the north-south corridor along I-77. But at a summit hosted by the Lake Norman Transportation Commission Tuesday, officials took a closer look at how to improve east-west traffic along highways 150 and 73.
NC 150 in Mooresville and NC 73 in Davidson and Huntersville are the main east-west routes through the region, providing an important thoroughfare for businesses and commuters. Officials said that widening the two-lane roads is necessary to ensure that traffic continues to flow smoothly as the region grows. Read the full story
