A panel of local teens spent Tuesday night introducing parents to the inner workings of popular social media platforms in a program at Davidson United Methodist Church organized by Davidson Lifeline. With a live demonstration, Davidson Lifeline’s Student Leadership Team explained how the popular social media platforms Vine, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter platforms work, and gave parents clues about their dangers and appeals. CORNELIUS – The first day of kindergarten can be bewildering for any child, more so if the child’s teacher and classmates are speaking a foreign language. This is the problem faced by many Spanish-speaking children who have to adjust to speaking English in kindergarten and first grade. The language barrier puts them at an early disadvantage, and can have consequences for their education further down the road.

Some Davidsonians were up early Wednesday to catch a glimpse of a total lunar eclipse. We watched it from a dock at Portside, in Davidson Landing. Alas, clouds rolled in about 6:20am, offering only a couple of more peeks at the covered moon. The best views came at the start of the eclipse around 6am. By full eclipse, at 6:55am, it was obscured by the clouds. Read the full story

Campus police at Davidson College are investigating a reported sexual assault of a female student this past weekend, the third case to be publicly disclosed this fall as the college adheres to federal crime reporting requirements.
