Norfolk Southern Corp. has told the Red Line Task Force and NC DOT it is “not logistically possible” to meet a summer goal for completing a new study of the rail line north of Charlotte, and such a study might take years. The latest letter from the owner of the tracks between Charlotte and Mooresville raises questions about whether the proposed Red Line Regional Rail Project can meet the task force’s timetable, which already has been revised amid concerns from Norfolk Southern. Davidson’s Town Board on Tuesday approved a series of planning ordinance changes that include allowing larger accessory structures in rural areas. The board also agreed to designate the former Davidson IB School on South Street as a historic landmark. Read the full story

Davidson Police investigated two cases of vandalism over the past week, at the Wells Fargo and the Homewood Suites. Huntersville police are seeking a suspect in an attempted sex assault Tuesday. A vehicle was broken into in the Summer’s Walk neighborhood, and an unknown suspect stole about $1,000 worth of goods from the Harris Teeter. The Lake Norman Marine Commission rental boats subcommittee met for the first time last week, and aims to offer commissioners a formal recommendation for standardizing boat rental rules within the next three or four months.
Rental-boat safety is at issue in part because of an accident on Lake Norman last June that severely injured a Charlotte woman. At the Marine Commission meeting last Sept. 12, several boat-rental company owners told the commission they support better enforcement of existing safety rules, but they were concerned new rules would hurt business. Many of those owners now are serving on the rental boat committee. Read the full story
