About 60 people hopped on board the Rotary Club of Lake Norman/Huntersville’s Spring Wine Cruise Thursday night, raising more than $2,000 to benefit Orphans to Ambassadors, a nonprofit organization providing orphaned children in Africa with education and skills training. Hundreds of barbecue and music lovers were at the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson Saturday for the 3rd Annual “FIRE” 5K run and barbecue fund-raiser. “Fire” included a barbecue competition and sales of chopped pork barbecue. Courtney Spear

Davidson Farmer’s Market announced Friday that Courtney Spear has been hired as market manager. She takes over from Mary Jane Leach, who is stepping down from the job as she moves away from Davidson.
Ms. Spear is a Davidson resident and volunteer at the market, where among other things she has served on the marketing committee. She also worked previously as executive director and meeting planner for a non-profit association management company.
