The A2S (Access to Success) Foundation of former Davidson College basketball player Andrew Lovedale will host its first “Kicks from Cats: The Andrew Lovedale 5K” this Saturday, Sept. 10, at 9 a.m. on the college cross country trail. A big lineup of campus celebrities, from new President Carol Quillen to NBA star Stephen Curry, will be at the event to raise money for the foundation, which helps underprivileged youth in Nigeria through training in education, faith and sports. Our Towns Habitat for Humanity hosts its second annual Community Fest Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon on the Cornelius ReStore grounds, 20414 N. Main St. The event is an effort to raise awareness of Habitat’s ReStores – both the Cornelius ReStore and the new Mooresville ReStore, which opened in November. ReStores sell new and gently used donated items to raise money for Habitat projects.

Hundreds of athletes from around the country will be in town this weekend for the annual Lake Norman YMCA Triathlon. The Saturday morning event will include a swim in Lake Cornelius, and biking and running on routes through the Davidson and Cornelius area.

The triathlon is the Lake Norman YMCA’s biggest annual fund-raiser, benefiting the Community Support Campaign.
