South Street will be closed at South Main Street Friday night for the running of the Summit Coffee Twilight 5K, a race on town streets and greenways. The road will close around 5 p.m., and the race is expected to begin at 6 p.m. Read the full story

The North Mecklenburg Woman’s Club on Friday hosts its annual “Over the Table Top” holiday fundraiser at the Peninsula Club, 19101 Peninsula Club Drive in Cornelius. This year, the funds raised will benefit HAMMERS (Hands Around Mecklenburg/Mooresville Making Emergency Repairs Safely), an organization that aims to reduce the immediate threats to life, health and safety in homes owned and occupied by lower-income residents of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and Mooresville. About 100 people bundled up Saturday morning and walked in support of the Ada Jenkins Center, a non-profit health and human services organization serving Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville and South Iredell. Individuals and teams gathered at the Antiquity neighborhood in Cornelius for a Walk-a-Thon fundraiser for the center, which last year served 19,454 individuals through its various programs. A series of events at Davidson’s Summit Coffee this month to raise money for the men’s health-focused “Movember” Foundation continues this Friday, Nov. 11, with a Twilight 5K run and festival. The race on local streets and the torch-lit Southeast Greenway could be the first of a regular series of Friday night festivals – a whole new kind of Friday night outing in downtown Davidson. Davidson Mayor John Woods was behind the bar Thursday night at Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in downtown Davidson, in the second of a planned series of monthly fund-raisers. A total of $300 in tips from the mayor’s work Thursday went to the Ada Jenkins Center, a social services center on Davidson’s West Side.
