Tree-pruning crews working for Duke Energy are making their way around Davidson this month, trimming trees near the electric company’s poles and overhead lines.
A crew of about a dozen workers from Asplundh Tree Expert Co. was trimming branches along Concord Road Thursday, between Thompson Street and Pine Road. Read the full story

Rudisill
A Davidson man arrested in 2011 after a Cornelius computer technician found child pornography on his computer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation last week.
Kevin Rudisill, 55, pleaded guilty in Charlotte on Nov. 13 to five counts of third degree exploitation of a minor. A judge sentenced him to 6-8 months in prison, suspended, and 60 months’ probation. He also got credit for 14-days in jail, a Mecklenburg District Attorney’s office spokeswoman said. Read the full story

They’re nowhere to be found in daylight, but paving crews are out in force overnight this month on N.C. 115, the main street through downtown Davidson and Cornelius. Charlotte-based Ferebee Corp. is doing the work under a $7.8 million contract with N.C. Department of Transportation.
The DOT is resurfacing Main Street/N.C. 115 from the Iredell County line in Davidson south to Washam-Potts Road in Cornelius. The patching and repaving project is happening nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. It began the first week of June and is expected to last at least through the end of the month. Read the full story

Davidson police are investigating several residential thefts over the past two weeks, one in which a $300 chainsaw was taken from Meadowbrook Lane home where a suspicious person had been seen earlier. In River Run, two newly-installed 25 MPH signs were missing. Meanwhile, a Summers Walk man found that someone had used his Social Security number to file taxes this year. And a woman told police her personal information had been used to open a Dish Network account in February. Davidson Police are continuing to investigate the unarmed robbery from CVS that occurred last Wednesday, along with two instances of larceny from vehicles that Detective Steve Ingram believes are related. A Garmin GPS valued at $300 was stolen from a home on Twin Oaks Road, and over $1,400 worth of electronics were stolen from a vehicle on Meadowbrook Lane.
Officers are also investigating two reported instances of communicated threats and one case of a man leaving Great Clips in Davidson Commons without paying for his haircut.
Finally, an 18-year-old Mooresville man was cited for reckless driving after crashing his 2001 BMW into a drain pipe. Police say the driver was traveling at an estimated 60 mph in a 25 mph zone before the accident. Davidson College’s 2011 commencement Sunday included recognition for top students, retiring faculty and several Davidson residents. Rosie Molinary of Davidson was the community winner of this year’s Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, given annually for “outstanding spiritual qualities applied to daily living.” Meanwhile, professors Keyne Cheshire (classic) and Nancy Fairley (anthropology) won the college’s top teaching awards. Here’s a recap of all the day’s awards.

CORNELIUS – A man arrested Tuesday on 39 counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor could face as many as 62 more charges, Cornelius Police said Thursday.
Kevin Hunter Rudisill, a 54-year-old Davidson resident, is being held in Mecklenburg County Jail on $780,000 secured bond after a computer repair technician found child pornography on his computer and called police. Read the full story
