A developer’s lawsuit against the Town of Davidson is making its way through federal court, seeking to take away a tool town officials say they need to cope with the costs of growth, but which can add thousands of dollars to the price of a new home.
The suit is the first against the town in more than a decade, Town Manager Leamon Brice said Tuesday. It challenges the constitutionality of Davidson’s Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance, or APFO, which asks developers of new housing to share the costs of additional fire and police protection, public parks or other public services needed because of their projects. An altercation at a construction site on Westmoreland Road last week led to
assault charges against a construction work who allegedly struck three co-workers.
Police also released a report about an Oct. 28 disturbance at a home in the Summer’s Walk neighborhood, where a domestic dispute resulted in assault charges, and led to discovery of a stolen handgun.
Meanwhile, police were out in force last week enforcing the speed limit on Griffith Street, among other places. Patrols issued 15 speeding tickets on the main route between downtown and I-77. And they’re continuing to watch for drivers ignoring stop signs on Jetton Street.

Police on Tuesday recovered a 2002 Mazda in Davidson Landing, off I-77 Exit 30, that was stolen two weeks earlier in Mooresville.
Also this week, a car struck a deer on N.C. 73 east of town, and police issued a dozen speeding tickets on Griffith Street. Several auto break-ins were reported, including two in the Summer’s Walk neighborhood, and one on Walnut Street where several thousand dollars of sports equipment was taken. And a resident of the Northeast Drive reported the theft of an $8,000 engagement ring.

Police are investigating a break-in overnight early Monday at the Monkee’s of Lake Norman store in the Harris Teeter shopping

Several car break-ins were reported over the past week, including one in the Summer’s

The Town Board Tuesday night gave the town manager the go-ahead to seek land in east Davidson for a second fire station, which the manager called “a pretty dire need.” The vote followed a presentation by a Charlotte-based consulting firm that looked at four potential sites, and identified one at June Washam and Davidson-Concord roads as preferable.
