A speeding SUV struck another car and overturned on I-77 southbound just south of Exit 30 in Davidson Sunday night. The N.C. Highway Patrol said several suspects got out of the overturned vehicle and jumped into another car that left the scene. Read the full story

Police responded to several calls about auto break-ins over the past week or so, as well as minor traffic accidents. In one case, a man knocked over a light pole at the post office on Jackson Street. In another, two cars had to be towed from Griffith Street after a driver pulled a U-turn in front of another driver over I-77. Meanwhile, if you haven’t already read it, we have news about some attacks on cats in the Westmoreland Farms neighborhood. Also, last week saw a flurry of traffic citations on Griffith Street.

Mooresville firefighters extinguished a smoldering fire at the former Burlington textile mill Tuesday morning that started as workers were renovating the building for a new furniture outlet store. Also last week, firefighters responded to a variety of alarms and minor calls, including one report of an overturned kayak in the waters off I-77 that turned out to be nothing serious.
