A man pulled a handgun and threatened a woman during an argument in the parking lot at the Exxon gas station off Exit 30 Tuesday night. Also last week, someone broke into the former Davidson Clinic building on South Main Street and emptied fire extinguishers inside.

Davidson firefighters helped Cornelius units put out a garage fire Tuesday. They also went to a Lorimer Road home last week for a minor electrical fire in a light switch, and responded to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms at Davidson College and other locations. Davidson police were busy with several arrests over the past week. They arrested the second of two men wanted on charges related to a May 31 drive-by pellet-gun shooting of a 10-year-old girl in the River Run neighborhood. They also arrested two burglary suspects in unrelated incidents on Armour Street, one in a traffic stop on the street shortly after an attempted break-in.

Burning toast in a self-service dining area set off fire alarms at the Homewood Suites hotel at Exit 30 on Sunday. Meanwhile, a minor fire was reported last Wednesday, June 23, at Ada Jenkins Center on Gamble Street, where a cardboard box was found smoking on an active stove burner. Firefighters also responded to a fire in a washing machine at a St. Alban’s neighborhood home and extinguished a back yard camp fire at a River Run home. Ready to recycle more? The number of items accepted for recycling in Davidson and throughout Mecklenburg County will expand as of July 1 to include everything from wide-mouth plastic containers and empty aerosol cans to empty milk cartons and juice boxes.
But Davidson won’t be changing any other aspects of its recycling service, as Charlotte and Cornelius are doing. Read the full story

Police responded to several calls about auto break-ins over the past week or so, as well as minor traffic accidents. In one case, a man knocked over a light pole at the post office on Jackson Street. In another, two cars had to be towed from Griffith Street after a driver pulled a U-turn in front of another driver over I-77. Meanwhile, if you haven’t already read it, we have news about some attacks on cats in the Westmoreland Farms neighborhood. Also, last week saw a flurry of traffic citations on Griffith Street.

Mooresville firefighters extinguished a smoldering fire at the former Burlington textile mill Tuesday morning that started as workers were renovating the building for a new furniture outlet store. Also last week, firefighters responded to a variety of alarms and minor calls, including one report of an overturned kayak in the waters off I-77 that turned out to be nothing serious.
