Davidson’s Town Board is in Charlotte for three days this week at its annual planning retreat. With a pair of first-term commissioners – Tim Dreffer and Connie Wessner – and three returning members, the group spent much of Wednesday in team-building and discussions of board procedure. On Thursday, they’ll be reviewing goals and discussing one of their biggest priorities: economic development. See the full agenda below.

Q. How can you tell a Yankee in the South?
A. He can pull out a hockey stick when the pond freezes over.
These three boys, all fifth-graders at Davidson Elementary, proved their ties to the North over the weekend when they took one look at the frozen McConnell pond and ran to find their hockey sticks. The three, joined by others, spent as much of Sunday’s daylight hours as they could stand on the ice. The shallow side of the pond has been frozen solid for several days.

Davidson Day School celebrated its first ever homecoming on Saturday, Jan. 9. The festivities with families, students and faculty included crowning the school's first-ever Homecoming Queen, senior Allie Sherman of Davidson. At right is Jade Cotter, 12th grade representative in the homecoming queen's court.
