Back in 1957, a group of area youth baseball supporters got together at Davidson Town Hall to talk about the need for a baseball field in town. They found a piece of land at the end of South Street and with volunteer labor constructed what is now McEver Fields.  Now nearly 57 years later, a group of former players and coaches is planning a reunion to coincide with next summer’s PONY tournament here. A Christmas pageant at Davidson College Presbyterian Church on Sunday ended with gifts not of gold, frankincense and myrrh, but of food for Loaves & Fishes food pantry. Meanwhile, the church has listed its plans for Christmas Eve services. Also, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church offers a service Dec. 23 for those grieving at this time of year. Davidson and Community School of Davidson leaders snipped a blue ribbon Thursday night and marked a couple of milestones – the start of a new focus on the arts at CSD and the completion of the final phase of building at the 1,300-student charter school, which has two campuses in Davidson. While the headline act at the Davidson Town Board meeting Tuesday night was a swearing-in ceremony for the mayor and commissioners, elected officials weren’t the only ones in the spotlight. Thousands of viewers lined NC 115 in Cornelius and Davidson Saturday afternoon to watch nearly 3,000 marchers in the 31st annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. The march began with the Hunting Creek Farms Clydesdales pulling a wagon full of lucky riders, and included marching bands, dancers, public officials, fire trucks, a float with elected officials and even Santa Claus. Main Street swarmed with visitors on the first two nights of Christmas in Davidson 2013 Thursday and Friday. Santa arrived on a fire truck for opening night Thursday, and a crowd came to town despite a bit of rain. On Friday, balmy temperatures brought an even bigger throng. Are you ready for the final night, Saturday, from 6-9pm?

Friday night’s events included the annual visit by Mrs. Claus to Allen Tate Realty on Main Street, performances on the library stage, including the annual Doggie Fashion Show, and carriage rides up and down Main Street. There were food trucks in the parking lot between Ben  & Jerry’s and Summit Coffee, the latter of which sold out of beer in most of its taps. Read the full story
