Davidson basketball coach Bob McKillop said his team has spent much of the early season “learning how to win.” With 4:45 left Thursday against Elon, the Cats had a 14-point lead and appeared on their way to acing the midterm exam. But the Phoenix, the pre-season favorites to win the Southern Conference, fought back to tie the game at the end of regulation, then grabbed victory in overtime, 87-85. It had to be the ride of a lifetime: Davidson College President Carol Quillen flew to another DC – Washington, DC – on board Air Force One Wednesday to participate in a White House meeting Thursday hosted by President Barack Obama on expanding college opportunity for low-income students. 
Artists, craftspeople, vintage clothing sellers, and even a seafood vendor greeted guests Saturday night at the Eden Street Market’s first ever “Second Saturday” art crawl just across the railroad tracks in downtown Davidson. 
People and progress made headlines in Davidson in 2013, from the election of a new Town Board to the opening of MSC’s new corporate headquarters at I-77 Exit 30. A bank was robbed on Main Street in April, while Hough High School endured a week of bomb threat hoaxes about 3 weeks later.
