Rosemary Schmidt sends these photos of what she calls “the electrical castles” around the Bradford neighborhood, off Davidson-Concord Road. “While I don’t like these things very much, they do seem quite beautiful some days … like majestic, graphic poetry playing with the clouds,” she said in a note.

The cold weather and snow meant a snow day for many in the Lake Norman area, and sent kids to sledding hills and cars skidding along Main streets.

A crowd of canine and human supporters swarmed the Lucky Dog Bark and Brew in Cornelius Thursday night in a kickoff for April’s annual Bark for Life Lake Norman fundraising walk. The event included cancer survivors and their dogs, along with family, friends and representatives from sponsor MSC Industrial Supply Co., of Davidson. Celebrating the end of the first week back at school, Davidson College students gathered at Alvarez College Union Saturday night for Winterfest, the college’s annual post-winter break festivities.
Several hundred students crowded Alvarez College Union to kick back before academic work really sets in. They enjoyed free food, games, karaoke and live music by student band Free Barbecue and New York City rapper ASAP Ferg.

A total of 212 cyclist joined Saturday’s 16th annual Polar Bear Ride 50K and 100K bike rides that started from Ingersoll Rand’s campus off Beaty Street in Davidson. The ride had been rescheduled a week because of rain. Mother Nature provide wind and cold, with temperatures around freezing at the 10am start. Read the full story
