Robert Taylor photographed Saturday night’s “Supermoon” from Davidson Landing. The first was shot at 9:08pm, right after moonrise, when the moon had a reddish hue. (Robert Taylor photo)
Saturday night’s clear sky offered provided the perfect backdrop to view the moon at perigee – its closest point to earth. Headline writers (us too!) call it a Supermoon. Davidson Landing resident Robert Taylor was out with his camera to record the scene.
Experts tell us the Supermoon was one of five this year. The next will be Aug. 10 and Sept. 9. (See July 12, 2014, EarthSky.org, “What is a supermoon?”)

Led by a police car and a two-officer color guard, Davidson residents young and old celebrated the Fourth of July Friday afternoon by parading from McEver Field on South Street to the Village Green. Many were on bicycles, some decorates with flags and streamers.
The parade ended at the Green, where the band Simplified was set up to play a special holiday Concert on the Green. Mayor John Woods led a brief ceremony with parade-goers before handing off to the band. (See the video above for his remarks. Can’t see the video? Watch it here.)

Shooting ace Stephen Curry keeps adding to his basketball resume, this past season making his first appearance in the NBA All Star Game. That gives Curry more clout, on and off the court.
