And then there are businesses like the one Brandon and Amy Morris of Cornelius opened last fall, called The Elements 4 Life Home & Outdoor Living. The new retail store on Davidson-Concord Road, across from the Bradford Store, offers both outdoor design items and gifts, and is a showroom for the couple’s 8-year-old business MINT Landscaping, for Morris Irrigation Nature & Turf. Firefighters last week responded to a report of a gasoline leak at the marina on Portside Drive in Davidson Landing. Employees at Archer’s Towing called 911 when a vehicle began to smoke after its battery arced in a storage area, and the Mecklenburg County fire marshal’s office was called to investigate an illegal outdoor fire on Shearer Street. Police responded to two break-ins at buildings owned by Davidson United Methodist Church on South and Walnut streets March 21. On Thursday, someone tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at the Rushco Market, off I-77 Exit 30, while another suspect was issued a citation Sunday after he was accused of stealing a beer from the Rushco. The Mecklenburg County Commission on Tuesday approved the creation of new Fire Protection Service Districts and a new fire service tax on property in the county’s unincorporated areas. The new tax will take effect July 1 and is expected to range from about 4.5 to 7 cents per $100 of assessed value. Read the full story

The Mecklenburg County Commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday night, April 3, on a proposal to adopt a new tax to pay for fire service in unincorporated areas of the county. The move would boost the tax bills of property owners in areas beyond the town limits in Davidson, Cornelius and other county municipalities. Read the full story

Davidson and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police searched for a missing Davidson man for hours Wednesday night with dogs and a helicopter but it now appears the 18-year-old wasn’t really missing. The man’s family and police say he already was safe at a Huntersville hospital as the search continued. Read the full story

Davidson and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police searched an area of east Davidson near N.C. 73 Wednesday night for a young man who called police and was threatening to hurt himself. The man was unarmed, but police were warning residents to be wary and not to respond to unexpected knocks at the door.
