The experience of arriving at a behavioral health hospital can be difficult for patients in mental distress. But a Davidson College art student has changed the picture at Carolinas HealthCare System Behavioral Health Hospital off NC 73 in Davidson.
Stewy Robertson, who graduated from Davidson this month, was at the hospital this week painting a colorful landscape on the walls of the hospital’s sally port, which is the first thing patients see when they arrive.

Development should ideally occur in areas that reduce car trips, save wildlife, and promote a healthier population. Ed Harris did a nice job explaining the rationale for this way of thinking in his recent article on Davidsonnews.net. (May 11, 2015, Commentary: “Narrow Passage passes narrowly?”
But, in the grand scheme of things, Davidson is a rural town. We are a rural outlier to Charlotte and if we were concerned about reducing car trips, we should be living in truly urban areas where mass transit and jobs are centrally located and are in proximity to adequate and affordable housing. A certain few folks can pull this off in Davidson, but, as it stands, there are relatively few jobs and only expensive housing options around the village center. Read the full story
