The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Trustees on Monday, May 2, approved recommendations for the future of the library system, including a request from the county for up to $2.5 million in additional funding for operations. The request now goes to the Mecklenburg County Commission, which will take it up Tuesday night. Read the full story

Lake Norman Transportation Commission Executive Director Carroll Gray told the Cornelius Town Board Monday night a financial plan should be completed by year’s end for the Red Line, the proposed 25-mile commuter rail line from Charlotte to Mooresville. Potts Street in Davidson was closed because of low-hanging utility lines Friday afternoon around 3:30 after a car struck a utility pole and overturned. Police and a witness told DavidsonNews.net that occupants got out of the car and fled the scene. Read the full story

A crowd of Hawaiian-shirt wearing Davidsonians gathered in front of Summit Coffee on Main Street Friday morning for what has become an annual ritual: a photo to mark the start of Hawaiian shirt Fridays. It’s the fifth year for the grass-roots bit of Friday fun, which encourages Davidson residents and business people to wear their finest colors on Fridays during the summer months. Read the full story

What a wonderful Easter weekend! Perfect temperatures and warm sunshine. The Saturday Egg Hunt on the McConnell Green provided fun for young and old. The Easter Sunday worship services interspersed with egg hunts for the youngsters were wonderful occasions. Now we move on to college graduations and the final weeks of public school before the much anticipated summer vacations.
