Concord Police have arrested a 46-year-old Mount Holly man on charges of robbing the State Employees Credit Union on April 29. Meanwhile, Davidson College’s Spring Frolics last weekend resulted in a handful of citations for possession of marijuana, and five students were treated for excessive alcohol consumption. There was no disagreement in the N.C. House of Representatives Wednesday: Mecklenburg County needs to correct its flawed 2011 property revaluation. In a unanimous (116-0) afternoon vote, legislators approved House Bill 200, which requires the county to re-do its most recent assessments.

A loud roaring noise, which some residents described as sounding like a jet engine, was heard in the Lake Norman area Friday afternoon and evening, followed by the smell of gas from Cornelius to Davidson to Mount Mourne. The odor of gas prompted more than two dozen 911 calls in Davidson and Cornelius between 5 and 8:30pm, as well as calls in the south Iredell area. Read the full story

Thieves continued to be a problem for local construction sites this week when an unknown suspect stole over $3,300 worth of copper tubing from inside of three houses in the Summers Walk neighborhood. Unknown suspects broke into a business on North Harbor Place and stole over $1,100 worth of cash and electronics, and someone used a Lakeview Avenue victim’s social security number to open numerous accounts with a power company in Connecticut.

CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte Mecklenburg school board on Tuesday adopted a $293.9 million capital improvement plan, which includes four new schools, three replacement schools and multiple renovations and conversions. The plan still needs approval from the Mecklenburg County Commission, which holds the final say on financing and priorities.
CMS’s plan includes two major projects in north Mecklenburg: a $7 million addition that would convert Davidson Elementary into a K-8 school and a new $28.4 million school on the site of the aging Alexander Middle School in Huntersville. Read the full story

Davidson police have charged a Mooresville man with the April 8 robbery of the Fifth Third Bank in downtown Davidson. Alfred Ray Gibson was arrested Wednesday at the Iredell County Jail in Statesville, where he is being held on unrelated charges.
Gibson, 46, is charged with unarmed robbery of the bank of the Fifth Third branch at 124 S. Main St. on the afternoon of April 8. The charge is a felony.
Davidson Detective Steve Ingram said police shared information and security camera photos of the robbery with nearby police departments, and that led to the arrest. Read the full story
