Mecklenburg County’s recent property tax revaluation notices brought big surprises for a few people around Davidson, where increases averaged 25 percent and some values more than doubled.  The county invites property owners to appeal the new values. The deadline for informal appeals next Thursday, March 10.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery and carjacking Wednesday morning in the parking lot of the Bank of America branch on West Catawba Avenue. A female employee of a nearby McDonald’s restaurant was robbed around 5:30 a.m. as she brought the restaurant’s night deposit to the bank. Read the full story

A citizen committee charged with plotting the future of the county library system meets again Tuesday, March 1, facing a tough decision: How to make up for millions of dollars in lost funding over the next few years. The Future of the Library Task Force appears headed toward recommending that the county focus resources on the system’s large regional branches, such as North County Regional Library in Huntersville. Davidson town officials say they are meeting with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ officials to see if there’s a way for the town to take over the Davidson IB Middle School building on South Street once the school closes at the end of this school year.
