Davidson’s Town Board on Tuesday will hear a consultant’s report with preliminary results from a downtown parking study on Tuesday night, including recommendations for parking enforcement, residential permits and other potential changes. The board also will continue its discussion of a proposed rezoning of the Davidson East site, off N.C. 73, and hold a pair of closed sessions on legal and personnel matters.

Community meetings planned over next 2 weeks

Three community meetings have been scheduled over the next two weeks to discuss the future of Davidson-Cornelius Day Care Center, which avoided shutdown last fall thanks to an outpouring of emergency support. In a postcard inviting stakeholders to the event, organizers explain: “Davidson-Cornelius Day Care is on stable ground, thanks to your support. But its future is not yet secure.” Read the full story

Program Sat. at Ada Jenkins seeks to find homes in need of repairs
Did you know there may be federal stimulus funding available to help make your home more energy efficient? A coalition of local non-profit groups and churches will hold a workshop and neighborhood canvass Saturday in Davidson to seek applications and help get that word out.

Davidson’s Public Works Department has begun its annual tree pruning program, this year targeting neighborhoods west of Main Street. The program targets street-facing trees. In announcement Monday, the town said the goal is to “correct structural defects, ensure the long term health of the tree, and clear growth to permit the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles.” Read the full story

A woman living on Catawba Avenue told police last week someone had used her credit cards without her permission to charge $3,300 worth of purchases. Meanwhile, a Davidson police officer on the overnight shift struck a deer on N.C. 115 north of town early Tuesday.
Also over the past week, someone stole a firearms safe and guns from a home in River Run. And police responded to reports of attempted break-ins in the McConnell neighborhood at a veterinary office on Griffith Street.
