A slew of false alarms and two cases of food burning on stoves were the highlights of a relatively quiet week for Davidson firefighters. Units also were called in the overnight hours Friday morning to remove a fallen limb blocking South Main Street. The department also responded to 11 medical calls, including two traffic accidents. More information has emerged this week about the series of related burglaries in east Davidson and south Iredell County, including the size of the thieves’ haul. Police reports made public this week show the the total value of jewelry and other valuables taken from several homes in Davidson and Iredell on July 27 was nearly $100,000.
Meanwhile, police also received reports of other burglaries, in River Run, on Catawba Avenue and at Davidson-Cornelius Day Care, on Gamble Street. And they issued an alert for a suspicious person after an incident Wednesday downtown. Read on for details about these and other incidents, as well as the week’s traffic enforcement.

A 17-year-old Davidson driver was taken to the hospital with possible neck and back injuries after a rear-end collision on Griffith Street Monday. Also, police issued a flurry of speeding tickets on Griffith Street over the past week. And they have put out a warning about a suspicious man entering businesses in the Exit 30/Harris Teeter shopping center area.

Police issued 14 citations for under-age drinking after being called to a party in the River Run neighborhood on Tuesday, July 6. Sarah Phillips was just putting her 2-year-old daughter to bed in an upstairs bedroom of her Ney Circle home Friday night around 8:15 when she heard a big storm outside.
“That storm came up fast, with lots of lightning and thunder,” Ms. Phillips said Saturday morning. The house shook “four or five times, pretty violently, and it was obvious that a tree had fallen on the house.”

A man pulled a handgun and threatened a woman during an argument in the parking lot at the Exxon gas station off Exit 30 Tuesday night. Also last week, someone broke into the former Davidson Clinic building on South Main Street and emptied fire extinguishers inside.

Davidson police were busy with several arrests over the past week. They arrested the second of two men wanted on charges related to a May 31 drive-by pellet-gun shooting of a 10-year-old girl in the River Run neighborhood. They also arrested two burglary suspects in unrelated incidents on Armour Street, one in a traffic stop on the street shortly after an attempted break-in.
