A half-dozen students from Woodlawn School traveled to National History Day in College Park, Md., last week,
and one – eighth grader and Davidson resident Lachlan Johnson, finished 11th in the nation with her documentary video about Depression-era photographer Marion Post Walcott (watch it below) . The Davidson Dodgers completed an undefeated 13-0 season with a 7-4 championship game victory over the Davidson Green Machine at McEver Fields on South Street. The win gave the 9 and 10 year olds the right to be called Mustang League Champs. They were coached by Jay Poag and Kenny Shew. A celebration at Carolina Cones followed the victory.

With just a couple of weeks left before school lets out, many summer camps in and around Davidson still have openings. That includes some camps that in past years have filled early in the spring. Davidson-Cornelius Day Care on Gamble Street on Davidson’s West Side has always been a unique place, bringing together preschoolers from diverse backgrounds and income levels. This year, the kids have had a new activity to look forward to – weekly visits by Liz Hickey, Kindermusik instructor from Davidson United Methodist Church. The church’s music ministry raised money to pay for the program, which Ms. Hickey says will return in September.
