Geese have become a problem at Roosevelt Wilson Park, the town says. (Jay Wilson/DavidsonNews.net)
The Town of Davidson has hired a Charlotte company called Goose Busters!to help with a perennial problem at Roosevelt Wilson Park: Too many Canada geese and what they leave behind. (Did you know geese can drop a pound of poop daily?)
Beginning Thursday, Dec. 1, and continuing three times a week for several weeks, the company will use trained herding dogs to shoo the birds away and will treat goose eggs to prevent geese from nesting in the park, which is off Griffith Street in Davidson. The town says the campaign won’t kill any geese. Read the full story

Davidson Lands Conservancy picked a different kind of location for its annual meeting on Sunday: the former Abersham development off Grey and Shearer roads. Mecklenburg County recently purchased the 243 acres and plans to turn it into a park, so DLC supporters came for a preview. About 200 people were there for a nature hike, a bird walk, and the business meeting. Read the full story

A complicated $3.7 million deal for the 243-acre former Abersham development was completed two weeks ago, allowing Mecklenburg County to take over the site for open space and a future public park. Davidson Lands Conservancy and other nature lovers and supporters of open space preservation are wasting no time to begin celebrating the deal. They’ll offer a “sneak peek” of the future park on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2-4 p.m., when the conservancy hosts its annual meeting and a nature festival at the site, off Grey and Shearer roads in northeast Davidson.
