Nick Gibietis of the River Run neighborhood sent along today’s Photo of the Day for its color, and for a bit a “bug education.” “I found these little guys chewing on my dill plants in my garden. There were about 10 of them happily munching away. They were too beautiful, but I did want to relocate them to a better home. I found out they are the caterpillars that turn into Swallow Tail Butterflies,” he said in an email accompanying this photo.

Organizers of the planned Charlotte Zoological Park recently picked an ambassador to help spread the word – an Eastern Box Turtle named Davidson. A May 21 grand opening is in the works for the West Branch Rocky River Greenway, a new 1.1 mile public walking and biking trail in the River Run neighborhood.
The Town of Davidson, Mecklenburg County, and Davidson Lands Conservancy are collaborating on a grand opening on Saturday, May 21, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the new greenway’s east end off Shearer Road, according to a town press release. Read the full story
