to purchase the now bankrupt Adelphia cable and Internet system seem to have been lost as debates over dollars and cents and philosophical differences have raged on. About a dozen residents asked questions and offered comments during a public meeting Tuesday night about a proposal by Davidson and other area towns to take over the local cable TV and Internet system.
The session at Davidson Town Hall lasted a little over an hour, and included a presentation by Town Manager Leamon Brice on why Davidson, Mooresville and Troutman are interested in buying the system. Read the full story

For years, officials with local phone giant Bellsouth, now known as AT&T, have talked about offering some kind of TV service over telephone wires. But so far, the technology remains in its infancy, The News & Observer of Raleigh reports.

The debate over whether area towns should buy the local cable TV and Internet system has
been quiet – and mostly theoretical – until now. But a judge’s order last week setting a price for the system puts it on the front burner.
Public hearings are planned over the next two weeks, beginning Tuesday in Davidson, on the proposal by Davidson, Mooresville, Troutman and Cornelius to acquire the former Adelphia system. Citizens can comment and ask questions and local officials will talk more about why they’re considering public ownership of the system – which they’re calling MI Connection, (MI rhymes with “my”). Their key selling point: The four towns’ 10,730 customers will see better service if the purchase goes through. Read the full story

More mobile classrooms are being
added at Davidson Elementary School to handle another increase in enrollment next year. Davidson planning director Kris Krider wants the school district to consider an alternative to the unsightly mobile classrooms it usually installs. Read the full story

The New York federal judge overseeing the Adelphia cable bankruptcy case has finally told Davidson and other area towns how much it would cost to buy the local cable TV and Internet system.
The long-awaited ruling starts a 30-day countdown for Davidson, Cornelius, Mooresville and Troutman, which plan a series of public hearings next week on the proposed purchase. Read the full story
