Bicyclists on the Southeast Greenway. (Hans Diessel photo)
By MARY KIM FOLDS
I love the greenway. A run or walk on it with my dog is part of my daily routine and I am so grateful for that. The natural beauty and peace and quiet are so rejuvenating no matter the weather. I enjoy seeing the familiar faces who share my routine as well as the robins, blue birds, hawks, deer, …whatever might cross my path.
Most days I have a lovely experience. Some days, however, I have encounters that make me wonder if we are all using our best judgment on the trail. In particular, I have concerns about people with dogs and cyclists.

College graduations are occurring every weekend and public schools are winding down as we all look forward to the lazy days of summer – if we can catch a break from mowing the grass. Almost daily rains are keeping folks busy, but how wonderful and green everything looks.
Speaking of the end of the school year, we have two notes today about recent honors for teachers: Nancy Gardner and Rich Richards. Around Davidson also visits with library volunteers and has news of an award for Jean Berg. Read the full story

A Charlotte woman was surprised to learn last week that she had backed into a Davidson Elementary School employee after dropping children off at the school. Police investigated after a complaint from the school. Police also are investigating two auto break-ins where thieves stole owner’s manuals and loose change. In one incident on Magnolia Street, someone took two plastic containers of gasoline from the victim’s yard as well. Other items on the blotter this week include theft of a game system and laptop computer from a Central Park Circle home, and a Jetton Street woman’s report of credit card fraud. Details on these stories and more (along with a tally of the week’s arrests, citations, and traffic enforcement) may be found below. Read the full story

Davidson commissioners voted 4-0 Tuesday to revise an agreement with the Town of Mooresville governing ownership of the MI-Connection Communications System. The deal will save Davidson about $1 million this year, and help ease the financial burden the town has felt as it helped cover losses at the jointly-owned high-speed communications network. Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce members have hit their goal of raising $71,500 to pay for construction of a Habitat for Humanity House for a family in Cornelius.
