More than 550 people attended last year's Barnstock, at the Brown farm. Organizer Miles Brown thinks there could be 750 this year.
Wow, what a weekend we have ahead for local music, from two nights of music at Barnstock on the Brown farm in Huntersville to outdoor concerts Saturday in Cornelius and Sunday in Davidson. And
there’s a lot more in between.
It’s the third year for Barnstock, so named because it’s in and out of the Brown family’s barn on Black Farms Road, off N.C. 73 in Huntersville. This year, Barnstock is expanding to two nights: Beside Saturday’s lineup of five bands of teens and 20-somethings, they’ve added a Friday night concert they’re calling “Old Folks Barnstock” – for the over-21 crowd. Police are investigating several break-ins at local homes and vehicles over the past week, including a theft on Beaty Street where someone stole more than $800 in electronics and U.S. Treasury Bills from a parked car. In a separate report, a Jetton Street resident reported someone stole a bicycle valued at $350 from her house after breaking into an attached, unsecured porch.
In other news, a woman was transported to a local hospital last Thursday with injuries suffered in an automobile crash on Davidson-Concord Road. Three vehicles were involved in the collision, and both Odell and Davidson firefighters assisted Medic with patient care and scene stabilization.

Mecklenburg County Commissioners on Tuesday authorized county officials to move forward with a deal to buy the former Abersham development in northeast Davidson, for $3.733 million. The complex deal involves the Trust for Public Land, which has contracts to buy the 243-acre site from Community One Bank and Fifth Third Bank, which own the land after foreclosing on the failed project. Mecklenburg County commissioners will hold a closed session Tuesday night to consider the county’s proposed purchase of the 243-acre former Abersham development, off Shearer and Grey roads in Davidson. A subcommittee of the Mecklenburg County Planning Commission on Tuesday recommended that the county buy the failed 242-acre Abersham site off Grey and Shearer roads northeast of Davidson. Police are investigating the theft of an electric paddle boat last Friday from a 64-year-old man’s home on Lake Davidson. A deer sprinted out of the woods and struck a car on Davidson-Concord Road late last Wednesday night. And a Cornelius man who was injured in a moped accident off East Rocky River Road July 1 was cited for driving with no tag and no insurance.

Davidson commissioners will get an update next week on the town’s proposed purchase of two affordable homes in the Bradford neighborhood. At their regular meeting Tuesday night, July 12, they’re also scheduled to vote on a $102,000 budget for the planned “Book Garden” public art project off Main Street, between the CVS and the public library. A solo moped driver was taken to a Charlotte Hospital Friday afternoon after he lost control of his moped and crashed on East Rocky River near the entrance to the River Run neighborhood. Also over the past week, firefighters responded to a number of “good intent” calls, including a report of smoke around North Main Street that was found to be coming from The Soda Shop. Another caller reported that a boat was on fire in the middle of Lake Norman, but upon firefighters’ arrival the fire was determined to be a brush fire on the bank in Iredell County.
