We celebrate lots of innovations and traditions here in Davidson, and this week has certainly brought some unique firsts: New crosswalk safety flags on Griffith Street and new trash and recycling cans on Main Street.
That’s right: We had a dedication for new trash cans. Turns out that project has been in the works for a few years, since being proposed by a group of Community School of Davidson students. Meanwhile, the new crosswalk flags also came out of a project at the school.
Drivers on Griffith Street in Davidson this week are finding a new crosswalk safety tactic in use: Bright orange flags that pedestrians can wave to get the attention of passing drivers. Read the full story

Davidson College's Army ROTC unit has been organizing blood drives on campus for more than 50 years. On Wednesday, the group held its latest drive at the Alvarez College Union.

Lauren Verlander of Davidson came across an unexpected site Wednesday outside the Target at Northcross shopping center, off Sam Furr Road in Huntersville: “There's a boat in the parking lot,” she said in a Tweet, with a photo attached.
The incident happened about 1:45pm at the shopping center, off I-77 Exit 25.
Huntersville fire department reported later that the boat slid off its trailer when the truck driver braked suddenly for another car in front of him. Here's the Huntersville Fire report: Read the full story
