Piedmont Natural Gas workers are installing the pipeline in a cut through the east and northern parts of town. (David Boraks/DavidsonNews.net)
Work is continuing on an 8-mile section of natural gas pipeline through Davidson, which eventually will help supply gas to a new gas-fired electrical plant in Wilmington. Piedmont Natural Gas began the work in October, as part of a 127-mile pipeline project.
The 30-inch pipes follow a route in Davidson that runs roughly northwest to southeast. The work – and vast areas of brown dirt – is visible where it crosses N.C. 115 north of town, on Grey and Shearers roads, at East Rocky River Road and on N.C. 73 near the Summers Walk neighborhood.
