Caswell Washam turns 100 years old on Tuesday, and his family and friends this weekend are making sure the milestone doesn’t go unnoticed. The north Mecklenburg native and retired textile mill supervisor was scheduled to be the guest of honor at big party Sunday afternoon in a Huntersville church hall. And on Saturday morning, his monthly haircut at Raeford’s Barber Shop in downtown Davidson was interrupted with a birthday cake and round of “Happy Birthday.” Story and photos on our YOUNG at HEART page»

Santa and Mrs. Claus joined children and a stream of family, friends and supporters Wednesday night at the annual holiday party of the Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center, on Gamble Street.
Children snacked on holiday treats, decorated cookies, made holiday arts and crafts and sat in Santa’s lap. Lake Norman Kids for Kids volunteered, helping out with the activities.
Visitors were treated to songs and skits from each age group, from the youngest (the tadpoles) to the oldest (the frogs), and in the poliwogs in between. The older group, as part of the center’s Spanish immersion program, sang two songs in English and then two in Spanish. Read the full story
