A full moon sets in the early morning on Depot Street. (Bill Giduz)
Allow us to introduce our newest feature on DavidsonNews.net: Photo of the Day. It’s an attempt to replace the page-top banners of our former site – the one design element we wish we could’ve kept. Although not quite the same, we hope the Photo of the Day will help the site keep the same local feeling it had before our re-design – and then some: With today’s offering by longtime contributor Bill Giduz, the Davidson College news guy and photographer, we hope to inspire you to get involved.
We’ll be looking for photos that capture the people and places that make Davidson what it is. It could be a pretty picture or an event, a youth sports team photo or a pet, a quirky wildlife photo or an oddity. Send ‘em to us (editor@davidsonnews.net) and we’ll consider them for publication.
Requirements: Send us whatever you have – color or black and white JPGs preferred. If you have the ability to do so, we ask that you resize photos to not more than 600 pixels wide. That box on the front page of the site is exactly 595 pixes by 270 pixels, if you’re able to crop yourself. But you needn’t be limited to that size. Unlike our previous banners, with Photo of the Day, we can take any shape.
Wondering if you have something worthy? Call (704-896-0569) or email at the address above. And thanks for joining us!

Davidson College community members engaged in a "Moment of Loudness" for tolerance Monday. (David Boraks photo)
Dozens of Davidson College students, faculty, staff and local residents gathered around a flagpole outside the college’s Chambers building Monday for what was billed as a “Moment of Loudness.” People came to show their support for the college’s gay and lesbian community and the campus policy of tolerance.
The rally came in response to a Nov. 4 article in Davidson’s student newspaper, The Davidsonian, by a senior student who argued that homosexuality is against the Christian tradition. In a commentary filled with citations from the Bible, he also criticized the college’s statement of diversity, saying it does not “honor God.”
