HUNTERSVILLE – Historic Rural Hill marks the final weekend of this year's Amazing Maize Maze with a canned food drive for the Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen. Bring a donation of canned food and get a buck off your admission.

The maze, on a 7-acres cornfield off Neck Road in Huntersville, will be open Friday through Sunday, Nov. 2-4, from 10am to 5pm. And if you're looking for an adventure, try the nighttime flashlight maze Friday and Saturday beginning at 6pm (last tickets sold to those in line by 9). Read the full story

Friday night's annual Downtown Davidson Halloween March drew another big crowd of Spidermen, Captain Americas, princesses and witches to Main Street Davidson.

Our favorite costumes of the day were a few home-made offerings, led one little fell who came as the planet Saturn. His mom told us she made the planet by wrapping papier-mache around her Pilates workout ball. Cheers for that one. Read the full story

Hundreds of college students and local residents stopped by in recent days to watch Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery create a colorful sand painting at the Davidson College Union.

On Thursday, a closing ceremony celebrated the completion of the sacred mandala, and ended with a monk wiping the sand away – a symbol of the impermanence of things. Read the full story

The town of Davidson is in the midst of a $138,000 project to repair an old  dam off Beaty Street that state officials consider to be a “high hazard.” The earthen dam holds back a pond on about 14 acres that the town owns, across from the entrance to Ingersoll-Rand. Read the full story
