MOORESVILLE – A gathering of Eagle Scouts at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in Mooresville Tuesday evening attracted more than 60 Eagle Scouts of all ages to a celebration of the impact Eagle Scouts have had over the past 100 years. Local scouting officials thanked the Eagle Scouts present, who were mostly adults, for their continued service to Scouting. Read the full story

Good weather and a good cause brought 639 runners and about 100 spectators to downtown Davidson for the Leprechaun Loop 8K road race and festival Saturday night. The crowd for the race was almost three times as big as last year’s. Read the full story

HUNTERSVILLE – Back in 2005, Larry Vitez had an idea. He wanted to give the broader public – not just yacht club members – a chance to learn about rowing and sailing, two of Vitez’s lifelong passions.

So it was appropriate that when the North Carolina Community Sailing and Rowing center unveiled some of its newest donated rowing shells, the first was named “Vitez’s Vision.” Read the full story

Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Parade in downtown Mooresville was a relatively short one, but just right for getting folks in the mood for St. Patrick’s Day this weekend. The parade ran down Main Street from Iredell Avenue to Center Avenue and included the Ceol na Gael Irish Pipe Band, Irish Wolfhounds, Irish Step Dancers, and more.

Davidson College has expanded its collection of outdoor sculpture, with a stone and stainless steel piece called “Waves III” by the Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa. Workers installed the work Friday just north of the Chambers Building on a walkway near a row of residence halls.

The work is the fifth in Davidson’s growing campus sculpture program. Other pieces nearby include Antony Gormley’s figure “You,” and “Group of Ten,” by Magdalena Abakanowicz. Read the full story
