CONCORD – As Erin Cobb continues her recovery after being shot by her ex-husband at her Davidson home in September, she and her family say her good fitness has been a major advantage. A 28-year-old banker who served a tour with the U.S. Marines in Iraq, Ms. Cobb was a regular practitioner of CrossFit – short, intense group workouts focusing on strength and cardiovascular conditioning.

Tuesday night brought the final regular meeting of the 2009-2011 Davidson Town Board. The next board – including two newly elected commissioners – will be sworn in at the board’s Dec. 13 meeting.
The meeting was the last for commissioners Margo Williams and Tim Dreffer. Both had announced last summer that they wouldn’t seek re-election. Read the full story

The Summit Twilight 5K race Friday night in Davidson took runners onto the Southeast Greenway lined with luminaria. The runners included Kaela Frank, who ran sporting fake glasses and mustache. The race was part of Movember, a series of events at Summit Coffee in Davidson to raise money and awareness for men's health. See link below for story, results and more photos. On a day full of “I was there when…” citizens and veterans on Friday added a new memory to the mix. More than 600 people now can say, “I was there when the town dedicated the monument.” Of the hundreds that paused to remember our veterans at the new Cornelius Veterans Memorial Monument at Rotary Plaza Friday morning, more than 200 helped with planning the event and participated in the ceremony. Meanwhile, other ceremonies were held across the region, including at Community School of Davidson and at Richard’s Coffee Shop in downtown Mooresville, a hangout for area veterans.
RICHARD’S
At Richard’s Coffee Shop, 128 S. Main St. in Mooresville, the local chamber of commerce presented an award Friday to the people behind the shop. Kirk Ballard, 2011 Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce Chairman of
the Board presented a Service Award on behalf of the chamber to John
Hedley and board members of Richard’s. The award recognized the board’s work to ensure memory of and support to those who serve and have served our community and our country. (Thanks to the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber for the photo.)

The table and tree designs ranged from classic Christmas to avante garde, whimsical to international Friday at the North Mecklenburg Woman’s Club’s annual “Over the Table Top” holiday fundraiser at the Peninsula Club. Hundreds of design fans turned out to see what local designers and businesses came up with at the event, which this year was a fund-raiser for the Davidson Housing Coalition’s HAMMERS emergency home repair program.
