Strawberries at farmers market, ‘Charlie Brown’ on as scheduled

A couple of inches of snow covered Davidson and the surrounding area Friday night before turning to sleet and freezing rain. The result this morning was a glistening landscape, with ice sparkling on trees and a “rain” from melting ice falling onto a frozen landscape.

Most public events Friday night in Davidson were canceled, and parks & recreation programs today (Saturday) have been called off. But other events are on as planned: the Davidson Farmers Market was operating its pre-holiday market this morning. And today’s performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at Armour Street Theatre are a go as well. Read the full story

Friday morning’s chilly rain turned to snow after 2:30 p.m., sending middle schoolers flocking to the green for a little bit of snow football and forcing us all to wrap those scarves a little tighter. Kids were out sledding as soon after school as they could get their boots on.

The winter weather caused a slew of auto accidents on local streets, including one that slowed traffic at Davidson-Concord and East Rocky river Roads around 4:30 p.m. Some events planned in Davidson Friday night also were canceled, including a play and a concert. Davidson police this afternoon released these images from an armed robbery at the Wachovia ATM on Main Street early Friday. The images show a masked man confronting a man who was using the ATM at 12:06 a.m. Friday. The robber got away with cash and a digital camera. More information in our earlier news item, CLICK HERE>

Workers this week are building new turn lanes and reconfiguring the intersection of N.C. 115 and Catawba Avenue in Cornelius as they move closer to completion of the Catawba extension. But Cornelius officials say it could late March or early April before the extension is open for traffic across the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and into the Antiquity Cornelius development.
