Davidson College’s Environmental Action Coalition hosts the 8th annual Green Ball this Friday night, Feb. 17, a night of contra dancing, fun and fundraising for Davidson Lands Conservancy
The dance is 7:30-11 p.m. at Davidson College’s Chambers Hall, Lilly Family Gallery. Tickets are $8 for students, $10 general admission, $12 at the door. Read the full story

Police are investigating a variety of incidents this week, including one in which a woman reportedly made repeated harassing phone calls to a man over two days. Last Thursday on Davidosn-Concord Road (N.C. 73), a Davidson driver going 55 mph struck a deer. And a Cornelius woman’s unoccupied GMC rolled out of its parking space at The Brickhouse Tavern and struck a nearby unoccupied Pontiac. No injuries were reported, but the Pontiac had to be towed. County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts announced Monday she plans to run for the U.S. House of Representatives from the 9th District. The seat is up for grabs with the departure of longtime U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, who announced last week she would retire when her term ends. See that story on our Election 2012 page.

Mooresville police this week arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the Feb. 3 robbery of a First Citizens Bank off I-77 Exit 33. In Davidson, police arrested a woman on Griffith Street on a DWI charge after she admitted to driving the right side of the road and smashing into a light pole while texting. An unknown suspect passed two counterfeit $20 bills at the Rushco Oil station, and a known suspect is under investigation for stealing $1,600 worth of jewelry from a Northwest Drive residence. This week, Davidson firefighters assisted Iredell County and Cornelius emergency responders with motor vehicle collisions on I-77, and checked on a malfunctioning smoke detector at a Davidson College eating house. Firefighters also provided first responder services on 11 EMS calls and stood by at a Davidson College men’s basketball game.
