H1N1 virus runs through schools, but may be peaking at college
As the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, continues to spread through local schools and workplaces, health officials are reminding residents to make sure they get vaccinated for the yet-to-appear seasonal flu. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Health Department is offering the shots, as are local physicians, grocery stores and pharmacies. (See a partial list below).
A vaccine will be available later this month for the H1N1 virus, which already has hit Davidson College (67 suspected cases) and local schools. Read the full story

Ride for Hope & Housing planned Saturday in Davidson

Davidson Housing Coalition’s 5th annual Ride for Hope & Housing is Saturday, Oct. 3, in Davidson, and its youngest rider this year is also the first rider to add fund-raising to his preparations for the ride.
For the first time this year, the annual benefit ride is giving participants an opportunity to raise money in support of their rides. This personal fund-raising is encouraged, but not required. Read the full story

About 500 people piled into cars, vans and even a few church buses Saturday afternoon to visit nine area farms on a tour organized by Know Your Farms LLC, a Davidson local-food buying club. The ticketed, self-guided tour included farms in Mecklenburg and six surrounding counties: Gaston, Lincoln, Catawba, Iredell, Rowan, and Cabarrus. Read the full story
