Davidson Mayor John Woods was behind the bar Thursday night at Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in downtown Davidson, in the second of a planned series of monthly fund-raisers. A total of $300 in tips from the mayor’s work Thursday went to the Ada Jenkins Center, a social services center on Davidson’s West Side.

A two-year effort by volunteers from the local chapter of the National Wildlife Federation has helped reel in an honor for our area: certification as a Community Wildlife Habitat. The effort included numerous educational programs and certification of 330 back yards, 10 businesses, 11 schools, 10 parks and one church as Wildlife Habitat sites. Read the full story

Stand-up paddle board racers hit the water Saturday in Mooresville for the first annual Aloha Cup, hosted by My Aloha! Paddle Sports and Fitness. (Tammy Cox / Our Towns Habitat)
More than 38 community members on Saturday ‘stood up’ for Habitat, participating in the inaugural Aloha Cup Paddle Board races. Hosted by My Aloha! Paddle Sports and Fitness, the Stand-Up Paddle event (SUP) drew folks from as far as Asheville and raised $950 for Our Towns Habitat for Humanity.
“It was an amazing day for evolution of Stand Up Paddling on Lake Norman,” My Aloha owner Rob Bennett said. “Traffic on Williamson Road bridge slowed to a crawl from everyone taking notice.” Read the full story
