Davidson’s Town Board will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday night, when commissioners are scheduled to hear an update on the Red Line Regional Rail Project, vote on statehouse lobbying priorities for 2012, and hold a public hearing on one set of planning ordinance amendments and a vote on another. Davidson Presbyterian Church on Depot Street will host a community breakfast this Saturday, 7 to 11 a.m. Meanwhile, Davidson College will be hosting a theology conference next Monday to Wednesday, March 12-14, on “Reformed Perspectives in Education.” And St. Alban’s Episcopal Church’s Spirituality in the Arts program presents a Lenten screening and discussion with the Rev. Davidson College’s March calendar is a full one, from next week’s Alumni College to lectures to art exhibit openings. A variety of conferences are scheduled – one on reformed theology and ethics, another on music, the annual Women’s Leadership Conference, one on new media, and a Latin American Studies conference on the region’s colonial history. Music this month includes an Organ at Davidson concert and an appearance by the Kontras Quartet. (Oh, and next week is Spring Break, when most students will be off campus.) Precinct 127 will hold its annual precinct meeting March 6 in the fellowship hall of Hopewell Baptist Church, 18841 Davidson-Concord Road, in Davidson.

At the meeting, that begins at 6:30 p.m., the group will elect a vice president and delegates to the April 14 county convention. Those delegates also may represent the party at  the 2012 National Convention, party chair Gary Davis said.

Lynn E. Usdan, corporate senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Donna Karan International Inc., will be the keynote speaker at the 2012 Women’s Leadership Conference at Davidson College March 16-17. Organizers say the event is a chance for college students and women in the community to reflect and share experiences, through speakers, interactive workshops, and discussions.

The annual event is specifically designed for women by women, and will take place in the Chambers building on Davidson’s campus. This year, the Conference theme is, “Our Voices in Action,” exploring how women use their voices to lead, inspire and connect. Read the full story

Performances by a group of Ugandan dancers and the Davidson Community Players, town hall meetings, a fundraising breakfast and auction and the next installment of the Cornelius Concert Series highlight this week’s activities across the area. The group Spirit of Uganda — 22 young Ugandan dancers and drummers — will perform Tuesday night at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall as part of the college’s Smith Artist Series. The Davidson Community Players continues its run of “Children of a Lesser God” at the Armour Street Theatre, with shows Thursday through Saturday night and a Sunday afternoon matinee.
