Davidson College’s Environmental Action Coalition will present “Greenstock,” an environmental festival on Saturday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., outside Davidson College Alvarez College Union.
The festival will include music by Davidson students, food from the Healthy Home Market and Davidson College’s Food Cart, break out sessions with experts in different environmental areas, plus games and activities. Read the full story

Davidson’s Town Board this week plans to revive discussions of a proposed town charter amendment that would lengthen terms for the mayor and town commissioners. At its monthly work session Tuesday the board also is scheduled to hear presentations on the downtown rail station area plan, an economic development strategic plan being drafted by a consultant, and potential changes to the the town Animal Control Ordinance.

Opponents of Amendment One, which would add a ban on gay marriage to the N.C. Constitution, will rally on the Village Green in Davidson on Saturday. The rally will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Green, Main Street and Concord Road.
North Carolina’s “defense of marriage” law already defines marriage as only between a man and a woman. The Republican-controlled legislature, with the help of conservative Democrats, voted in September to put the amendment on the ballot alongside election primaries on Tuesday, May 8. Film about the life of conservationist Aldo Leopold will be shown free at Davidson CollegeOn Friday, March 23, at 7 PM, the Biology Department of Davidson College and the Davidson Lands Conservancy will host a free screening of a new film called “Green Fire,” the first full-length, high definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold. The film explores Aldo Leopold’s life in the early part of the 20th century and the many ways his ideas about “land ethics” are applied all over the world today. Read the full story
