The Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius is making a name for itself with innovative theatrical events of a brand not usually seen on other area stages – one-man shows, dark dramas and comedies, student plays and works by local playwrights. This weekend, Marla Brown and company are at it again, hosting a three-night live radio play of the detective classic “The Maltese Falcon” and a multigenerational literary reading on Sunday. Meanwhile, CMS also is seeking input this week on two possible versions of a school calendar for next year, one of which could provide a longer winter break. Davidson’s Town Board will vote Tuesday night whether to remove a construction gate on June Washam Road, limiting access to the River Run Phase 5 development. The Board also will hear a presentation on economic development from expert Joe Minicozzi and get an update on the area’s victim advocate program, which helps domestic abuse victims.  Meanwhile, Mr. Minicozzi also will give a lunch presentation at Town Hall Tuesday. CORNELIUS – The Cornelius Town board is scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote Monday night on a proposed 88-unit residential development called Bailey Forest off Bailey Road, east of W.A. Hough High School and near Barnhardt Road in Davidson. The project comes before commissioners with two negative recommendations, from the Cornelius Planning Board and the town planning staff. Local emergency officials will test emergency sirens at midday Wednesday at both McGuire Nuclear Station on Lake Norman and the Mountain Island Hydro Station. The tests will be heard across the area, but require no public action. Read the full story
