On Saturday night, March 16, Summit Coffee will host the Leprechaun Loop 8K, the first race in its 2013 running series, with a downtown festival to follow. They’re seeking volunteers to help with the race and the post race party.
The race is a benefit for Levine Children’s Hospital. It starts at 6pm, and the post-race party will go until 10pm, featuring music by The New Familiars.
Organizers Tim and Brian Helfrich say: “We are in the need of volunteers to help us with this event. The most pressing need is for on-course support. Essentially, we will ask you to be at a particular intersection on the course from the start of the race until the last runner has passed. In most cases this will require you being on course for about 30 – 45 minutes. Additionally, we could use a bit of help during packet pick-up, from 4:30-6.”
To volunteer, contact Tim Helfrich – tim@summitcoffee.com.

Friday is Eddie Beach‘s last day as the aquatics director and swim coach at Lake Norman YMCA, and the community isn’t letting his retirement after 21 years go unnoticed. The YMCA is honoring him, and the mayors of Davidson and Cornelius have proclaimed Friday, March, as Eddie Beach Day.
Quite the honor for J. Edward Beach, a quiet, thoughtful husband, father, gardener and swim coach who leads by example and will continue to do so in retirement.
