Kate MacIntyre, executive director of Downtown Davidson Inc., passed away at her home Monday morning, Oct. 22, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 55.

A memorial service is planned Saturday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, where she had been baptized. (Note time change from what we previously reported.)

As Downtown Davidson’s first executive director, Ms. MacIntyre helped transform it from a volunteer group into a professionally managed non-profit organization. She was behind the “Hip and Historic” campaign promoting downtown and was helping lead the development of a public art program in town.

E.L. Van Wulfen, 88, passed away Sept. 20, at The Pines. “Van” was the husband of Cary Johnston, a member of the Davidson Town Board. A memorial service is planned Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

John Montgomery Belk, former trustee of Davidson College, died Friday morning at age 87.  Mr. Belk spent 50 years leading his family business, the Belk department store chain, and served four terms as mayor of Charlotte but he also had strong ties to Davidson. Read the full story

Kay Kincaid, wife of Davidson Mayor Randy Kincaid, died Friday, July 20, at age 67 of ovarian cancer. She was a long-time resident of Davidson, moving here with her husband in 1967. A memorial service is planned Monday, July 23, at 3 p.m. at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Read her obituary on Charlotte.com.

Longtime Davidson resident Sarah Elizabeth Jetton died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at age 93. She lived at the Pines at Davidson.

Her funeral will be Friday, June 1, at 2 p.m., in Lingle Chapel of Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Pines before the service, from 11 a.m. to noon. Read the full story
