This week I have asked several Davidson College employees what they do when the students go home for the summer. The reason I am asking this is because people are always asking my mother (who works at the college) if she gets the summer off when the students go home. We always get a good laugh at that because in no way is she done when the students leave.
I asked people on Davidson’s campus how life changes without the students and what they do in the summertime.

Firefighters received a report that a tree had fallen across East Rocky River Road as a result of Thursday’s evening storm. The overnight crew on Engine 3 assisted by cutting the tree into manageable pieces and removing it from the roadway. The same crew investigated a smoke scare shortly after responding to a medical call at The Pines.
A number of minor cooking incidents caused accidental fire alarm activations throughout the week, and Cornelius firefighters battled a vehicle fire on Interstate-77 near Exit 28 on Tuesday. An infant was extricated from a locked vehicle in an unrelated incident at Direct Furniture Connection, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities Department had to assist a private pavement cleaning company when workers realized that their truck was connected to a fire hydrant that could not be turned off.
Details on these stories and others (as well as a tally of the week’s medical calls) may be found below.
