Budget goal: Keep doors open
Tuesday’s meeting ended with a long discussion of the 2009-10 budget, which will plan spending for the year beginning July 1. Most of the talk focused on what the town must do without (salary increases, training, some street and sidewalk work, facilities repairs, and the printed town newsletter, among other things). The agenda said next year’s spending plan would be an “open doors budget.” “That because it’s going to open our doors – barely,” Mayor John Woods said.

Davidson’s Town Board voted 3-0 Tuesday, with two members absent, to approve an agreement with the town of Mooresville that aims to bring the two town’s regulations for the tiny lake into closer agreement.
The board also approved additional budget cuts, and passed without discussion a resolution opposing a state House bill that targets municipally owned cable TV systems. Commissioners also approved creation of a new Natural Assets and Tree Advisory Board and passed a planning amendment that clarifies recent signage rule changes to continue a ban on “monument signs” at the entrance to new developments. Davidson’s Town Board will take up a variety of issues at its monthly meeting Tuesday, from Lake Davidson to cable TV matters to planning ordinance amendments, including a proposal to establish a Natural Assets and Tree Advisory Board.
A public hearing and vote are planned on a resolution supporting state House Bill 771, which would give the town more power to regulate tree removal. The board will hold a graduation for citizens who attended this year’s town-sponsored “Civics 101″ classes.
And it will hear a presentation on last month’s North of Griffith Area planning workshop, which looked a potential future uses in the northwest part of town. Read the full story
