Updated 9:01 p.m.A piece of networking equipment failed Sunday morning at the Mooresville-based MI-Connection Communications System, cutting off access to most of the system’s internet customers in the Lake Norman Area. The outage also affected the company’s customer support phone lines, which were out most of the day.

In a pair of 5-0 votes Tuesday night, Davidson Commissioners adopted the $8.4 million town budget for the 2010-11 fiscal year beginning July 1 and also endorsed a new marketing and branding plan that town officials hope will attract visitors and businesses to town.

Davidson’s Town Board will vote Tuesday night on the proposed 2010-11 budget that imposes a new trash collection fee, but holds property taxes steady, and on a town marketing plan developed by consultants this spring. Those votes, along with a vote on a series of budget amendments will come during the board’s monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. Read the full story

The N.C. Senate on Monday night overwhelmingly approved a bill that would temporarily halt new financing for city- or town-owned communications networks. The bill also would continue a Senate committee’s study of municipally-owned networks. It now goes to the House for consideration.

MI-Connection, the local cable and internet system, on Friday presented a check for $1,400 to Davidson-Cornelius Day Care as part of its “Operation Outreach” community initiative.
The cable system has been airing 30-minute programs each month this spring focusing on non-profits in its Cornelius-Davidson-Mooresville service area. “Operation Outreach” is hosted by former Carolina Panther Mike Minter and airing on the MI-Connection community channel, Channel 4.
