Time Warner Cable is boosting internet access speeds and raising its prices as it moves to satisfy users who want to download movies or watch TV online. The Charlotte Observer reports that the company has doubled upload speeds and significantly increased download speeds for existing customers in the greater Charlotte area.

Losses at the MI-Connection Communications System narrowed slightly in the first quarter of the 2010-11 fiscal year as expenses held steady and revenues inched upward. The company also lost fewer cable customers in the past three months and saw revenues rise amid continued sales of telephone and high-speed internet services – the most profitable parts of its business.
The loss of just a net 6 cable TV customers between June 30 and Sept. 30 came even as MI-Connection lost yet another multi-customer contract at an apartment complex, in Cornelius.

Updated 10:07 a.m.Davidson Police are seeking information about a red truck parked in the driveway of one of several homes hit in during series of daytime burglaries Monday in the McConnell and Hudson Place neighborhoods. Nearly $20,000 in electronics and jewelry was taken. Meanwhile, police also are investigating the theft of $6,000 in cable networking equipment from a Time Warner Cable outdoor box on Summers Walk Boulevard early Saturday. Callers to MI-Connection Communications System support lines had longer-than-usual waits this summer as operators dealt with issues related to a switch in computerized billing systems. System officials told the MI-Connection board Thursday the conversion is now largely complete and most issues have been resolved.

MOORESVILLE – Could the money-losing MI-Connection Communications System swing from red ink to black in just 12 months? MI-Connection officials think it can be done, with a revved-up marketing campaign that sends town commissioners on sales pitches to community groups and businesses, and enlists citizens to refer new customers in exchange for cash rewards or donations to their favorite charities.
That’s the gist of a new community-focused marketing campaign that MI-Connection officials presented Monday night during an unusual 90-minute joint meeting between the system’s board of directors and the town boards of Davidson and Mooresville, which own the area cable and internet system.

Preliminary year-end results at the town-owned MI-Connection Communications System are out, and the system’s general manager says they’re headed in the right direction.
Expenses fell, revenues grew, and so did profits from operations in the fiscal year that ended June 30. The total number of customers at the town-owned MI-Communications Communications System was up slightly in June, compared with a year earlier, as the system continued to sign up new telephone and internet customers. But the decline in cable TV customers continued, and the system continued losing money after debt payments. Read the full story
