MI-Connection Communications System will hold a special telephone board meeting Wednesday, March 2, at 10 a.m. to review and approve a response letter to the state Local Government Commission about its financial situation.
The meeting will be via teleconference and at the system headquarters, 420 S. Academy St., Mooresville.

MOORESVILLE – For a second straight year, the financially troubled MI-Connection Communications System has received a warning letter from state officials concerned about its financial condition and outlook. The board of directors of the MI-Connection Communications System holds its monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 a.m., at the MI-Connection office, 420 S. Academy St., Mooresville.
No agenda has been released. The board is composed of citizens from Davidson and Mooresville, the two towns that own the Lake Norman area TV, telephone and internet system.

The Davidson Town Board on Tuesday, Feb. 8, added to its agenda, and then approved, an amendment to its agreement with Mooresville governing the operations of MI-Connection. Following is a letter resident Bobby Cashion sent Tuesday to the Davidson Town Board and mayor on the town’s plans to seek legislation the would keep secret some information about the MI-Connection Communications System. It is reprinted with permission.
Dear Board of Commissioners and Mayor,

The Town of Davidson plans to lobby at the statehouse this year for legislation that would allow Davidson and Mooresville to keep private some information about operations of the money-losing MI-Connection Communications System. Some citizens are concerned about the move, but Davidson’s town manager says the system only wants to withhold the same kinds of marketing information as similar private businesses. At the same time, the town-owned service plans to upgrade equipment to add 10 more high-definition channels for its top-tier digital TV subscribers in a move aimed at matching competitors.
