Opponents of a proposed behavioral health hospital off N.C. 73 in east Davidson on Tuesday argued that the hospital should not be allowed under Davidson’s planning rules and demanded that town commissioners halt the project. But in a tense discussion at an informal “chat” with citizens Tuesday night, town officials said the project is allowed without Town Board action, and “there’s nothing to halt.”
The answer wasn’t what some in the audience at Hopewell Baptist Church fellowship hall were looking for. Earlier in the day, five couples who oppose the hospital had sent a letter to Town Board and Planning Board members seeking a delay in the project and threatening legal action. Read the full story

Some listeners of Davidson-based WDAV-FM could lose their signal for up to a month while the classical music public radio station uses a backup antenna so it can repair damage on its main antenna.
The damage was unexpected and spectacular: A recent tower inspection found a section of the antenna glowing orange from heat. General Manager Scott Nolan said Tuesday engineers aren’t sure what’s causing the heat. They won’t know more until they dismantle the antenna this week. Read the full story

The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce on Thursday named Cool Breeze Cyclery in Mooresville Small Business of the Year. In addition to selling and repairing “all things bicycle,” the business offers a coaching center for cyclists of all ages and abilities. Savvy Salon and Day Spa in Cornelius was runner up for the award, and Uncommon Scents in Huntersville and The Welcome Committee in Mooresville received honorable mentions. Read the full story

Davidson commissioners voted 4-0 Tuesday to revise an agreement with the Town of Mooresville governing ownership of the MI-Connection Communications System. The deal will save Davidson about $1 million this year, and help ease the financial burden the town has felt as it helped cover losses at the jointly-owned high-speed communications network. Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce members have hit their goal of raising $71,500 to pay for construction of a Habitat for Humanity House for a family in Cornelius. The group hit the target thanks to a recent fund-raising party and last-minute pledges from local businesses, according to Denis Bilodeau, chair of the chamber board’s community affairs division.
