CORNELIUS – A Cornelius Police Department officer assigned to W.A. Hough High School has resigned following an internal investigation that found he had sent inappropriate text messages to an 18-year-old female student. The British classical vocal group Stile Antico returns to town for a concert Tuesday night at Davidson United Methodist Church titled “Treasures of the Renaissance: Masterpieces from the Golden Age of Choral Music.” Meanwhile, Sunday brings the first Concert on the Green in Davidson, featuring the Davidson College symphony and jazz ensemble. The week’s calendar also is busy with spring festivals and other events – from Art on the Green in downtown Davidson to the Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games in Huntersville, both this weekend. Davidson College has a variety of lectures, concerts and student presentations, and Davidson Community Players Connie Co. youth theater continues its run of “Treasure Island.” And Friday night, you can support the Davidson Lands Conservancy at its “Toast the Earth” wine tasting and fundraiser at River Run Country Club.

A sinkhole appeared Monday night on Old Canal Street, one of the main streets through the Antiquity Cornelius neighborhood. More than two dozen Lake Norman area runners were in Boston for Monday’s 117th Boston Marathon, which was cut short by two deadly explosions. We’ve heard from a several local runners, including a Cornelius town commissioner, who report that they and other local entrants they know are OK. CORNELIUS – A crowd came out to the Lake Norman YMCA on Lake Cornelius Saturday for the annual Family Fun Day. Activities included canoeing, archery, sports, bounce houses, face painting, and arts and crafts. The event also was a chance for the Y to promote its summer events, from day camps to the annual triathlon to adaptive water skiing, which allows people with disabilities to learn how to ski.

A 42-year-old Davidson man was injured and later was charged with driving while intoxicated early Friday, April 12, after he drove his car out of the roadway and struck a tree at a roundabout off I-77 Exit 30. Read the full story

The Charlotte area’s Jewish community celebrated a milestone Sunday when about 300 people gathered to dedicate the former Calvary Presbyterian Church on South Street in Davidson as the new Temple Kol Tikvah.
